OROAREZZO 2014, an international show for jewellery, gold and silver, was concluded on 8 April in Arezzo, Italy. According to fair organizer Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, the 35th edition of the event saw participation by around 500 Italian exhibitors and 12,894 visitors from over 80 countries and regions including the United States, the Middle East, China, Russia, Spain, the Philippines, France, etc.
The visitor statistics registered an increase of 8.5 percent over last edition. “We have seen increases in foreign operators with particular interest from Gulf and Maghreb countries and an important return of operators from the US,” announced by the new president of fair organizer Andrea Boldi. However, the domestic market is still very weak due to steep taxes and a consequent reduction in spending power, concluded by Arezzo Fiere e Congressi.
The four-day event kicked off at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Andrea Boldi and Maria Elena Boschi, minister for Institutional Reforms and Relations with Parliament. “There is all the excellence of Italian manufacture at OROAREZZO. We have the most genuine, fascinating and representative history of gold jewellery companies that mix their extraordinary skills of traditional artisan jewellery making with the most innovative technologies,” Boldi emphasized.
Exhibitors interviewed by Hong Kong Jewellery were generally satisfied with the results. The fair was quiet on the first day, but started to turn well with increasing people flow, especially on the public holiday. The Cash & Carry section targeted Italian and foreign retailers and wholesalers who could buy ‘ready for delivery’ jewellery with producers. Arezzo-based Scatragli srl sold silver jewellery at the section. Representative Milko Tagliaferri commented: “This section is perfect for customers who do not want to make large order. Our buyers could take away their purchases directly and phone for more orders after back to their countries.”
Maria Sole Gioielli exhibited at the Bi-Jewel section, a pavilion dedicated to fashion jewellery, with around 30 jewellery manufacturers. Representative Veronica Bicchi said: “Our silver jewellery with floral and nature motifs coated with enamel are showcased in this edition. As for clientele, we have buyers mainly from the United States and Europe.”
My Vice was located at the main hall; its sales director Andrea Calgaro concluded: “We are satisfied with the result though it was less crowded and busy compared to past editions. We had the opportunity to start new partnerships with European buyers, thus strengthening our presence in this market.”
OROAREZZO’s new president Andrea Boldi shared his comments on the fair and coming plans in an exclusive interview with Hong Kong Jewellery. “For the enhancement, we hope to improve the image of OROAREZZO. Now, we have the top products, but lacking in a good image. The trade could not distinguish well our fair from others,” he expressed.
“We now start to work on our next show, Gold in Italy, which will be held from 25 to 27 October 2014. In the meantime, we are signing agreements with concerned parties in Shanghai and Beijing, planning to display a selection of jewellery from the ORO D’AUTORE collection created by 28 Italian and international fashion designers over there. In March, an exhibition in similar nature was held in Shenzhen, aiming to promote ‘Made in Italy’ design to the world,” he continued.
