METS, innovative and sprouting

Organized by the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA), the first edition of METS (Machinery, Equipment, Technology and Supplies for Jewellery & Watch Industry) was successfully held at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong between 25 and 28 June 2014. As the premier machinery and supplies exhibition exclusively for jewellery and watch industry in Hong Kong, METS aims to provide the industry with the latest manufacturing solutions and technology exchange.

According to HKJJA, the four-day exhibition housed nearly 100 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions, including the United States, Korea, Japan, India, the UAE, China and Hong Kong. Europe Pavilion and Thailand Pavilion were two national pavilions highlighted in the fairground. The exhibits covered the entire jewellery and watch production process, from machines for jewellery production, casting and electroforming equipment, computer software for jewellery manufacturing, packaging items to supplies, gemological instruments, security systems, raw materials and more.

Compact in scale, the exhibition still recorded quality buyers from neighbouring countries and regions. Some Hong Kong-based jewellers even organized visiting groups from their factories in the mainland to the exhibition. According to the organizer, Seoul-based Sein Corporation and Yuen Kee Bullion Accessories Co Ltd from Hong Kong reported brisk sales. Several machinery and equipment suppliers expressed that a number of orders were secured on-site. The exhibition was overall satisfied, especially with the strong attendance and coverage by global media from India, Thailand, Korea, Mailand China, Russia, Hong Kong, etc.

On 25 June, the opening ceremony was officiated by HKJJA’s founder and honorary life chairman Henry Wai; president Charles Chan; chairman Benedict Sin, honorary chairman King Li; and advisor & director Billy Lau. Industry gurus and professionals gathered to celebrate the grand new exhibition. In addition, two professional seminars were hosted. Anglo East Group presented the must-know tips on risk management for jewellery and watch industry while Silver & Gold Co Ltd talked about the XRF application on jewellery and watch industry. Both events attracted a lot of attendees during the exhibition.

Most exhibitors interviewed by Hong Kong Jewellery applauded the initiative of HKJJA to organize a new professional machinery and technology exhibition for jewellery and watch industry. They look forward to seeing more exhibitions in similar nature in the future. Quite a number of attendees believed that METS will steadily grow and become one of the major sourcing exhibitions of machinery and technology in jewellery and watch industry.

Riacetech from Arezzo, Italy specializes in manufacturing wax injectors and different kinds of waxes. At METS 2014 they introduced the latest Mono Intuitive Injector and Mono Belt System Injector. Elena Aiello from communications department concluded: “Despite an unsatisfactory visitors’ flow, the exhibition gave us a good opportunity to meet potential clients and build our brand in China. We would like to participate in the next edition as it is a big opportunity to enter the Chinese market.” Hong Kong-based Anglo East Group provides jewellery industry one-stop services including insurance, security and logistics. Managing director Poon Chiuming commented the exhibition: “The atmosphere was quite good and we met some potential partners. However, we think it would be better if METS is held during weekend. Promotion of the exhibition was not enough but we are happy to participate in the next edition. Let’s hope HKJJA could spend more efforts to promote METS 2015 for a better result.”

The next edition of METS will possibly be held from 24 to 27 June 2015 at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong. HKJJA said to Hong Kong Jewellery: “Held in one of the key commercial areas in Hong Kong, METS 2015 aims to transform itself into a more comprehensive and efficient trading platform for worldwide visitors. Gemstone will be one of the highlighted exhibits. We promise to present a refined show with a larger scale and better services. More value-added initiatives are underway. We believe that METS 2015 will become a perfect mid-year sourcing venue for global buyers.”
