Christie’s New York important jewellery sale dated 22 October fetched a total of US$33.7 million or approximately HK$260 million. Colourless diamonds achieved strong prices in particular. Top lot was a cushion-cut L-colour VS2 diamond of 101.36 carats (photo) which realised US$4.98 million or approximately HK$38.4 million.
Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie’s Jewelry said: “Fine quality colourless diamonds achieved strong prices with international bidding. Collectors also bid competitively for natural pearls and special jeweled objects such as the Art Deco fishbowl clock, by Black, Starr, and Frost which realised US$137,000 against a pre-sale estimate of US$15,000.”
