One of the most significant gemstone-design-oriented competitions in the world, the 45th German Award for Jewellery and Precious Stones Idar-Oberstein 2014 themed ‘Moonlight’, announced the results from 85 entrants. A necklace named The other side of the Moon, made of white and black engraved agate, diamonds in white gold and ruthenium blackened white gold by the Canadian designer Llyn L Strelau, won the first prize. “This softness, these classic lines which remind one of silk, of wonderful flowing, fringed Charleston dresses, the exciting contrast between the two faces, the glamour radiated by this piece, the fact that it can be worn during the day and in the evening, never mind whether you feel great or miserable,” said the jury.
