Swiss jewellery and smartphone maker Savelli launched a ruby-set limited edition in collaboration with London-based Gemfields in February 2015, following their debut partnership last April. Alessandro Savelli, founder and CEO of the Geneva-based company, explained the concept behind the revolutionary merge of luxury and technology to Hong Kong Jewellery at a private exhibition in Basel earlier this year.
“Gemfields is a leader of coloured gemstones. They work from mine to final stones in a very responsible way,” said Savelli who comes from a family with a long tradition in jewellery making. “After collaborating with Gemfields in the emerald limited edition, Savelli is now pursuing the king of gemstones – ruby,” he added.
Launched his smartphone brand in 2013, Savelli aims to create the first jewel which is functional, beautifully designed, attentive to details, made of precious materials, and something that is useful and gives a status and emotion to elegant ladies. The mobiles are hand-made in Savelli’s atelier in Switzerland, using the same techniques honed in the crafting of fine jewellery.
Savelli told Hong Kong Jewellery that it is possible to set his luxury phones with semi-precious stones.
European-rooted, Savelli’s phones were first launched at Harrods in London and Printemps in Paris; now they are available in more European cities and the Middle East. “We’re launching at the Macao airport and hopefully in Hong Kong soon,” Savelli said.
