The Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) announced a new digital ‘Diamond Focus Report’ for natural, round brilliant cut diamonds between 0.15 and 0.29 carats. The report provides information such as carat weight, colour, clarity, cut grade, polish and symmetry grade with a fluorescence description, with the same standards and processes used for all other GIA reports.
Laser inscription of the GIA report number is also included in the report, which will be available through GIA’s online Report Check while GIA will not issue a printed report for this service. “The Diamond Focus Report will help address consumer and industry demand for rigorous and independent examination of smaller diamonds,” said Tom Moses, executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer for GIA. He added that recent innovations and developments in technology made certification service for smaller diamonds at reduced fees possible.
The report service costs US$20 for diamonds between 0.15 and 0.22 carats and US$22 for diamonds between 0.23 and 0.29 carats. GIA’s laboratories in Bangkok, Carlsbad, Hong Kong, Mumbai, New York and Tokyo all now offer the service. Other locations will offer the report in the future.
