Tokyo show draws a successful close

The 27th International Jewellery Tokyo (IJT) ended on a high note on 23 January 2016 with a vibrant business sentiment. Many exhibitors witnessed an increase in buyers and a buzz on the show floor amidst the improved market conditions and strong revival of Japan’s economy, said organiser Reed Exhibitions Japan Ltd.

The four-day event recorded a total number of over 27,300 buyers from around the world, and nearly 1,090 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Korea, Lithuania, Monaco, Myanmar, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, UK, and the United States.

About 2,000 visitors came from abroad. Among them 1,000 buyers from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and India were premium buyers hosted by the organiser. According to Reed Exhibitions Japan, the high quality, huge selection, exclusive design and price competitiveness of the goods at IJT attracted international buyers to the fair.

The organiser had launched a number of initiatives that helped boost on-site business such as the overseas jewellery sourcing guide which included exhibitors’ information, product features with photos and booth numbers. The guide was sent to 5,000 major Japanese importers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers prior to the show.

The inaugural ceremony held on the first show day was attended by over 50 dignitaries including local government officials and leading jewellery retailers such as As-me Estelle, Sada-matsu, Stone Market,and overseas retail giants namely Shenzhen Sunfeel Jewelry and Chow Sang Sang.

The IJT reception party and Japan Best Jewellery Wearer Awards have attracted enormous media attention nationwide every year. This time, the reception drew more than 1,000 attendees. The awards ceremony, which has been held since the first IJT, presents awards to the country’s most popular personalities of the year, for their glamourous jewellery fashion sense or shining character, consisted. This time the awards went to six actresses, models and artists, each representing a different age group, such as Nana Komatsu from the 10’s category and Akiko Wada from the 60’s category. The winner in the male category was famous Japanese artist/talent, Daigo. The special awards were presented to Ayaka Sasaki with Momoiro Clover Z and Ebizo Ichikawa in Japan. The evening drew over 200 media members from TV channels, radio stations, and fashion media.

The next IJT will be held 23-26 January 2017.
