Christie’s magnificent jewel sale held in Geneva on 18 May 2016 realised a total of over CHF146.8 million (US$148.6 million). The Oppenheimer Blue (photo), a 14.62-carat fancy vivid blue rectangular-cut diamond, was sold for CHF56.9 million, setting a new world record for any jewel sold at auction. A pair of 12.20 carats and 11.96 carats fancy vivid orange-yellow oval-cut diamond earrings named The Oriental Sunrise scored CHF11.3 million. A pair of intense blue and pink diamond ear-pendants was sold for CHF5.9 million. In addition to the top three lots, the superb jewels from the collection of HSH Gabriela Princess zu Leiningen were all sold at CHF22.3 million.
