A new world record for any jewellery sale was made on 17 May 2016 in Geneva when a total of CHF171 million (US$175 million) was achieved at Sotheby’s auction of magnificent jewels and noble jewels. The sale was led by Unique Pink (photo), a rare fancy vivid pink diamond of 15.38 carats, VVS2 clarity sold for CHF30.8 million, a world record for a stone of its type. Other world records were also achieved at the sale including price per carat for a fancy purplish pink diamond at CHF440,244, price for a fancy pink diamond at CHF9,546,000, price for a jewel by Reza at CHF13,254,000, etc.
