Enhanced OroArezzo draws more visitors

As an edition where ‘Made-in-Italy’ gold jewellery is represented, the 37th OroArezzo, the international goldsmith, silversmith and jewellery fair organised by Arezzo Fiere e Congressi brought down the curtain on 11 May 2016, registered 650 exhibitors and over 20,000 visitors during the five-day event, with an increase of 18 percent compared to the last edition.

“It is evident that at the moment the main jewellery markets are suffering, orders are prudent and the average size of orders, compared to the norm, is a third. In this context it is fundamental to have promotion events and change the world situation,” said Andrea Boldi, president of Arezzo Fiere e Congressi. “The market needs to be stimulated by events like OroArezzo, as practitioners need new models and enthusiasms, and the physical contact between buyers and sellers remains the main instrument to conclude business.”

According to Andrea Boldi, some enhancements have been applied to this edition’s OroArezzo. “The space and layout were revitalised to ensure a more engaging business experience as well as presenting the fair with an extra opening day to better serving the international community of the industry. We also continued to organise an innovation area called OroArezzo/Tech, representing Italian companies in jewellery production machinery, in collaboration with the Italian Association of Jewellery Machinery Manufacturers and Exporters (AFEMO),” Boldi told Hong Kong Jewellery. As a way of responding to practitioners’ needs for information and updates in the sector, in OroArezzo/Tech Pavilion, jewellers and traders got access to technologies at first-hand and geared towards the enhancement of their production capacity.

Furthermore, the organiser devised a new Meeting Club format and arranged meetings between buyers and exhibitors at the stands on-site, attracting 450 buyers from over 80 countries and regions worldwide. With the support of Italian Trade Commission (ITA), this time’s delegations of exclusive buyers and retailers were mainly from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, North Africa, South Africa, the Middle East, Hong Kong, mainland China, Europe, the United States, Canada, South America, etc.

Andrea Sereni, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Arezzo, stressed the importance of OroArezzo: “Thanks to the organisational work and the extraordinary beauty of the products and true works of art presented at the event, this edition has been able to combine innovative technology with fashion. It is hoped that the presence of such a large number of international buyers from the most strategic markets for our exports has enabled our entrepreneurs to acquire important business volumes.”

Maria Antonietta Reato from Vicenza-based Stefano Stefani with market presence in the Middle East, Africa, the United States, Europe and China revealed that even though OroArezzo is small compared with other international jewellery shows, it provides a platform for exhibitors to connect many international dealers and acquire development opportunities, and the company also got good results this time.

“OroArezzo is well organised and the organiser has rich experience, while they need to work hard to raise the quality level of buyers. In the industry where so many jewellery shows are held every year worldwide, some major buyers only focus on the most international trade shows,” said Barbara Pastorello from Effe Due which is specialised in gold earrings under the mother company Oro Soffiato. She also stated that the market situation is very difficult, whereas they have noticed a greater demand for high-quality products with unique designs. Seeking for new customers and markets, the company has started an important process of change and development that will last about three years at both the technological and organisational aspects.

Regarding the future plans for OroArezzo, Andrea Boldi said they plan to develop OroArezzo App, an innovative digital platform for smartphones and tablets with the aim of facilitating the business development of jewellery companies internationally. “Our buyers and exhibitors require new strategies. I firmly believe that our gold and jewellery businesses can be much stronger in the future. OroArezzo has a decisive role in opening up markets and producing excellent ‘Made-in-Italy’ gold jewellery known to international practitioners,” he predicts.

The next goldsmith event of Arezzo Fiere e Congressi is Gold/Italy scheduled from 22 to 24 October 2016.
