The magnificent jewels and noble jewels auction held by Sotheby’s Geneva on 16 November 2016 achieved a total of CHF136,734,500 (US$136,428,215), the highest total for any jewellery sale this season. Outstanding pieces included the 17.07-carat fancy intense pink diamond ring sold for CHF20,825,000 and a Cartier diamond ring (photo) set with The Sky Blue Diamond, a square-cut fancy vivid blue diamond weighing 8.01 carats, which fetched CHF17,112,500. The auction house said the sale showed an exceptional result for coloured diamonds with new records set for fancy deep blue, fancy light blue and fancy light pink diamonds.
