Early this year, Swarovski Gemstones Business unveiled its latest gemstone innovations including a new colour of natural topaz created by Swarovski Thermal Colour Fusion (TCF™) – misty rose. Patented in Austria and the United States, TCF™ enhances the surface of the stone with the precise shade without irradiation.
The new misty rose is a colour of delicate beauty that fits perfectly with the current trend for nude colours, according to Swarovski. “An excellent alternative to white in classical jewellery pieces, misty rose introduces a note of understated glamour when combined with gold, earthy brown and other red-related tones,” the company described.
As for their created stones business, two new Swarovski TCF™ colours and three new cuts of cubic zirconia were introduced, namely the greyish blue, the purplish pink, the side view cut inspired by the existing kite-cut, the violet cut resembling the shape of a petal and the leaf cut that combines a square and a round shape.
Gem Visions 2018
The overarching theme of Gem Visions 2018 is ‘Wunderkammer’ (cabinets of curiosities). In response to the phenomena of the universe, the marvels of the earth, the miracles of technology, three major design directions are identified: Naturalia, Mirabilia and Artificialia.
Naturalia is based on the inspiration from water and land. Materials corresponding to it include aquamarine, blue topaz or Ethiopian opal. Earthy and green tones are also relevant to the theme of earth. Pinpointing human’s contradictory desires to belong and connect and to stand out from the crowd, Mirabilia embraces curiosities of nature such as coloured diamonds and enjoys a rich palette of deep colours. Elements such as relics and talismans express the human need for a collective identity. Artificialia addresses the shift away from compulsive materialism towards real interpersonal relationships and celebrates a taste for jewels created with integrity and fundamentally streamlined design. Another focus is strange, other-worldly aesthetics based on structures and symmetry of natural designs. (Photo courtesy: Swarovski Gemstones Business)
