Sculptural jewels

Since Renaissance, Italian artists have wowed the world with ingenious sculptures. Nowadays the spirit of painstaking craftsmanship crystallises into creative wonders people could wear every day, whether as high-end fashion or jewellery. One designer, Federica Rettore, captures the beauty of everyday colours in sculptural jewellery handmade by master goldsmiths.

Rettore established her own jewellery design and manufacturing business Rettore s.a.s. in Milan in 1994. Believing in non-traditional, fashion-sensitive designs, she insists on launching two new jewellery collections each year like fashion. Between 2005 and 2008 she also headed the jewellery design team of Gucci in Florence while she was managing her own company.

Available in jewellery stores in the United States, Japan, Korea, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Puerto Rico, her works are also widely featured by global media. In 2011 she was awarded the first place in Couture Design Awards in the coloured gemstone (below US$20,000) category.

Her works speak of freedom both in terms of their styles, forms and choice of materials. Endlessly inspired by daily objects and their colours, the designer has a special love of the ocean, which can be found in shapes and symbols of corals and colours of the sea in her jewellery. While the designer is well known for her usual mix of materials such as zebu horn, jasper stone and wenge wood, her current collection, which focuses more on traditional fine jewellery materials, still communicates a strong personal touch and aesthetics.
