360-degree jewellery photography device

As e-commerce and social media for business become increasingly popular, there is a greater demand for reliable and user-friendly product photography equipment and services. Committed to serving full-range commercial cataloguing needs, Flex Line srl from Arezzo, Italy has developed its latest video and photography equipment ALO Photo Sphere to help laymen produce high-quality jewellery images and videos with just a few clicks.

The robot-resembling device features a spherical lightbox that permits three-axis rotation: first, the motorised turntable inside the lightbox allows 360-degree horizontal rotation (y axis); second, the sphere is 360-degree rotatable (x axis); lastly, the camera mounting fixture is also 360-degree rotatable along the z axis. In this way, users can easily produce jewellery videos and pictures in virtually any desired angle, even from the bottom of the product if a transparent turntable is used. The frame rate in each video could also be customised as per users’ needs. 

Apart from the LED light on the turntable, the device also features four independent dimmable light sources that ensure adequate illumination wherever the camera goes.

Offered alongside the innovative hardware is the complementary software that provides powerful functions. First and foremost is the photo-stacking function, which merges multiple photographs with different points of focus into one so that every design detail of the jewellery could be highlighted. 

Aside from the standard background-removal feature, the ALOPhoto Sphere is also capable of producing images that are true to the actual size of the jewellery for more accurate depiction.

While the camera is not included in this device, a DSLR is recommended to achieve the best quality, the supplier says.

 To fit users’ different needs and applications, the equipment is available in three turntable diameters (20cm, 30cm and 40cm). Sold together with the software, the three models cost approximately US$7,000, US$7,500 and US$8,000 respectively.
