When you find the ruby somewhere in the Chara Wen jewellery, you will receive the love and wishes from the brand.
Designing jewellery for nearly 20 years, Rachel Wen from Taiwan established her fine jewellery brand Chara Wen about 10 years ago. “In Greek, ‘Chara’ means ‘joy’. I wish to send my love and wishes to those who collect my jewellery in which there hides a piece of heart-shaped ruby cabochon as a token of love and wishes. The brand aspires to be the best gift for loved ones; it is also the best gift for my daughter,” said Wen during the interview with Hong Kong Jewellery.
Chara Wen embraces the love between mother and daughter. Rachel Wen treasured the moments when trailing behind her mother to see jewellery around. Under the influence of her mother, a love of jewellery was gradually instilled in her when she began to collect jewellery. When she failed to find the styles that connected her, she made jewellery by herself and acquired the knowledge of jewellery design and identification. She hopes her daughter, who also has the flair for art and aesthetics, would success the brand in future.
Gift of Love is the core collection among the four. “Chara Wen is a gift of love. The Gift of Love collection features an extensive use of bows and ribbons. Together with the heart-shaped ruby which holds the best of love and wishes, the collection comes as a natural gift for the ones we love,” Wen said.
Inspired by antiques and Art Deco, Classic Collection gives art deco design elements including geometric shapes and the use of onyx a modern and artistic twist. Rachel Wen said: “My high jewellery has a taste of luxury as well as subtleness, elegance and containing. Black elements are overwhelming in my design. I like natural minerals including obsidian, black fei cui and onyx which pair well with exquisite gems on one hand, while unleashing a hint of elementalness on the other.”
Nature provides jewellery design with plentiful ideas. The Earth Collection expresses the vast and dynamic world with streamlined shapes. The Fashion Muse collection pushes the three-dimensional attribute of fine jewellery to a new height by adopting fashion elements such as 3D silhouettes, plumage and ruffles.
With a special emphasis on total look, Rachel Wen has a unique perspective on aesthetics. She also designs customised jewellery watches alongside her fine jewellery line. “I feel sorry to see my clients wearing an unmatching watch with my jewellery. Therefore, I create timepieces as well because beauty should be seen as a whole,” she explained. Chara Wen’s wristwatches house Swiss-made movements.
A low profile haute-couture brand, Chara Wen only holds private shows in major markets while making occasional presence before the media. The designer admits that she does not have a big plan for the future. She would simply strive to appeal to more customers.
