Born at the dawn of the belle époque in Paris, Gringoire Joaillier has been accompanying the story of freedom and elegance in France since 1880, adorning women of whether the past or modern times with fine jewellery in French style. The brand infused a new vision by launching Gem Collection which features new stone cuts inspired by the 1930s’ Art Deco style recently in France.
The origin of Gem Collection comes from the encounter among Prida Tiasuwan, chairman of the mother company Pranda Group, Mina El Hadraoui, brand and managing director of Gringoire Joaillier, and Victor Tuzlukov, world-renowned gemstone cutter and artist. El Hadraoui said she was completely attracted by Tuzlukov’s poetic concept of gemstone cutting that each gemstone captures the human soul and reflects the universe throughout various facets. After two years of close collaboration associated with each party’s expertise, the new collection was created.
The collection has ‘King’ and ‘Rose’ lines leveraging two new stone cuts, faceted like a lion’s head and a hatching rose respectively to achieve the stones’ rich shades and brightness. The ‘King’ line uses the warm tone citrines, polished like a mirror, to incarnate an indomitable character derived from the majestic Art Deco sculpture of lion with strong boldness and passion. The ‘Rose’ line applies green and pink amethysts to give birth to the graceful flower. Faceted according to a creative geometric line, the stone subtly resembles a hatching rose.
The design basis of Gem Collection is Victor Tuzlukov’s Philosophical Stone collection created in 2009 and modified in 2012, which opened a new direction of gemstone cutting containing certain symbols in the patterns of stone facets. Tuzlukov told Hong Kong Jewellery that ‘King’ and ‘Rose’ stones are the simplified version of his ‘Winner’ and ‘Touching to the Perfection’ stones of Philosophical Stone collection, in a bid to better implement mass production.
Acquired by Pranda Group in 1992, Gringoire Joaillier works closely with the Thai jewellery manufacturer to produce jewellery, and shares the know-how of jewellery design and making. “When I give the design ideas or concept to the production team, I know they can make it precisely in high quality,” said Mina El Hadraoui. “This is the case that French design combines with Thai craftsmanship.” With over 43 years of experience, Pranda Group brings strong expertise on gemstones and business operations to Gringoire Joaillier with minimal intervention.
Gringoire Joaillier first launched Gem Collection in Paris in September 2017 with positive feedbacks. With a presence also in Southeast Asia, Middle East and the United States, the brand will launch the collection with modified designs for different markets.
Mina El Hadraoui holds an optimistic perspective for the jewellery market in 2018 especially in Europe and China. Producing around 120 pieces per main collection annually, together with some small capsule collections, the brand will unveil Romantiques Collection inspired from French gardens built by gardener André Lenotre, and In, Dancing Diamonds collection which offers customised designs with fancy-coloured diamonds to the global audience later this year.
