TIME tells our existence. Memory is the only way for us to contemplate time. We cannot regain the past nor can we reach the future. Is it the time or our life that passing us by? The skin of the glassy fei cui set on The Journey of Time bracelet was barely peeled off and slightly polished to retain its original harmony look, colour and transparency to the best, symbolising the eternity of time. The ebony wood is tough yet the texture is delicate and graceful. Its unique pattern reminds us of the intertwining of time. With the meticulous craftsmanship of Ammie Kang, the lines intersect with each other through past, present and future, telling a story weaved with every profound moment of our life.
Live with an untrammeled style
Ammie Kang, a designer who embraces individuality, a petite woman who is gentle but bright and filled with admirable perseverance. There are traces of her individuality in her jewellery design, need not to mention her sentiment and life experiences. Instead of working with a subject, she converts her abstract ideas into creations by gemstones in distinct shapes and other materials while the colours represent her emotions. She designs with whenever ideas pop out.
The vibrant colours and dynamic shapes in her designs manifest the beauty of conflicting characters which are contradictory yet harmonious. Having worked as a jewellery designer for over 20 years, commuted among mainland China, Canada and Taiwan, she still enjoys travelling, listening to music and embracing nature during her leisure time. Basking herself in travelling is perhaps the key to her creations and the reason behind her bold designs that scare other jewellery designers away.
Facing the ever-changing environment, Ammie Kang remains optimistic. She focuses on diversifying her jewellery, the application of ebony wood for instance. She said prefect jewellery goes beyond a touching story and scrupulous craftsmanship; it needs matching displays and props in the show window. She spent times on handmade props which matched the theme of her winning design for the award ceremony in Beijing. “Matching props bring a stronger visual impact and a more profound experience to the visitors,” she added. To infuse the concepts into jewellery design is her aim, while innovation is her key to visual enjoyment. (Text and photo countesy: Jewelry World, Taiwan)
