Phillips’ important jewellery and fei cui auction in Hong Kong dated 28 May 2018 fetched a total of HK$82,243,750 (US$10,486,078). A necklace-and-earring set featuring fei cui and diamonds was sold for US$2.5 million. Other important lots included a 33.02-carat Burmese sapphire and diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels hammered at US$548,082, and a 3.50 and 3.24 carats pair of pigeon’s blood Burmese ruby and diamond pendant earrings (photo) achieved US$594,150.
“The results prove that the market for such jewels continues to be robust. After only two years of Phillips’ presence in the region, the increased sale percentage by lot demonstrates our sustained and steady growth; and expanding presence in the region,” commented Terry Chu, Phillips’ head of jewellery in Asia.
