In a bid to encourage exchanges in design using fei cui and promote the influence of the oriental gem at an international level, the Hong Kong Fei Cui Design Biennial Contest organised by the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) was officially launched on 2 March 2019 in Hong Kong.
Ken Lo, chairman of HKJJA, gave a concise remark on the objectives of the contest, saying it provides winning participants with an unrivaled opportunity to exhibit and sell their works at prestigious auctions and museums.
Distinguished guests were invited on stage to share their love of fei cui, including 2015 Miss Hong Kong Louisa Mak, Cherry Tse, permanent secretary for home affairs, Samuel Kung, director of MoCA Shanghai, Law Chi Kwong, president of the Hong Kong Jade Association (HKJA), Ho Koon Wan, director of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Creative Centre and Billy Lau, president of HKJJA.
In the toasting session, the inauguration guests on stage passed their bright-coloured balloons to the centre to form a gorgeous bunch, signifying the successful launch of the contest with the united effort and support from across the region.
Themed ‘Connections’ and divided into open group and student group with a total of six entry categories, the contest is open for entries until 24 June 2019. Prize presentation ceremony will be held during the ASEAN Gem & Jewelry Presidents’ Summit in March 2020 in Hong Kong. Winning designs will be on display at the March jewellery fair in town.
