The Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) announced shortlisted entries for its inaugural Hong Kong Fei Cui Design Biennial Contest on 6 August 2019.
A total of nearly 160 designs from Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, Singapore, Japan, India, Romania and Italy were selected across six categories at the preliminary selection session held on 6 August. The judging panel consisted of 10 industry experts including renowned jewellers, designers and artists.
Themed ‘Connections’, the competition aims to enhance creative exchange on fei cui design among designers and enthusiasts all around the world. According to HKJJA, it has attracted huge interest from creative talents in the region which shows that the popularity of fei cui is gaining momentum at an international level. “We’re excited to receive a good number of incredibly high calibre entries for both the open group and the student group. They are very creative and have succeeded in striking the balance between aesthetic and practical qualifications of a fei cui piece. It was truly an arduous task for the judges to decide on the best designs for the final,” said the association.
The Hong Kong Fei Cui Design Biennial Contest was officially launched on 2 March 2019 during the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show. Result announcement is scheduled for January 2020.
