A pair of ‘pigeon’s blood’ ruby and diamond earrings topped the jewellery and fei cui sale of Bonhams Hong Kong on 25 November 2019 where a total of HK$32 million was realised. Signed art deco gem-set clocks have achieved strong prices, according to the auction house.
The ruby pendant earrings (photo 1) set with 4.01 and 3.39 carats of oval-cut unheated Burmese ‘pigeon’s blood’ ruby and pear-shaped diamond clusters was sold for HK$7.4 million. A pair of fancy yellow diamond ear-studs of 10.14 and 10.10 carats realised HK$2.8 million. A 5.13-carat Colombian emerald and diamond ring also achieved nearly HK$2.8 million.
In the sale, the exceptional art deco gem-set decorative clocks were led by a fine and rare Cartier 'La Pendule Ecran Chinoise' table clock set with mother-of-pearl and diamonds (photo 2) which was sold for HK$3.1 million. (Photo courtesy: Bonhams)
