More than half of the jewellery consumers are unaware that cultured pearls are sustainable, according to a recently released market research co-conducted by the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA) and MVI Marketing LLC. Arao says its golden South Sea pearls are ethically sourced from a sustainable pearl farm in Palawan of the Philippines, the founder’s home country. To take one step further to be more eco-friendly, the brand uses jewellery box made of recycled cartons and paper. Not only sustainability, Arao also aims to sustain communities in the Philippines. One percent proceeds from sales will be donated to the Philippines Foundation’s (TPF) education project for five million youths on the restoration of coral reefs and mangroves in the country.
