Dominion Diamond Mines unearths the largest yellow diamond ever in North America at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada, weighs in 522 carats, beats the previous record of 187.7 carats that was dug up at the same mine in 2015.
The rough is about the size of a chicken’s egg. The miner plans to pick a cutting and polishing partner for the stone, instead of selling it as a rough, similar to the approach done to the 187.7 carats rough. The rough was cut and polished into a 37.87 carats and a 36.80 carats pear-shaped diamonds and sold at a Christie's auction for US$1.3 million.
