In a bid to stay competitive amidst challenging times for the watch and jewellery industry, Baselworld and Salon Internationals de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) have agreed to synchronise the show dates starting 2020 till 2024.
Under the new schedule, SIHH will be held from 26 April to 29 April in Geneva, and Baselworld from 30 April to 5 May in Basel in 2020.
Fabienne Lupo, president and managing director of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, organiser of SIHH, said in a press release issued by both shows yesterday: “Our two events have always been different, yet complementary. Syncing with Baselworld will further confirm Switzerland as the foremost destination for watchmaking in the world. This is something we welcome wholeheartedly, as it is in the interests of all.”
Michel Loris-Melikoff, managing director of Baselworld, adds: “We have sought dialogue with the SIHH and together have found a solution, which benefits visitors, the media, and the entire watchmaking industry enormously. This partnership between the two most prominent exhibitions in the industry represents a major breakthrough for the future.”
This is not the first time when the two shows have come together. In 1991 when SIHH made its debut, it took place around the same time as Baselworld. Since then SIHH was typically held in January in Geneva and Baselworld in March in Basel.
