Alrosa is returning to Zimbabwe for new mining operations after almost two years break. The miner will develop exploration and extraction projects with the support of the government under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who sees diamonds as a major way to revive Zimbabwe’s mining industry, which has suffered years of decline. Alrosa aims to establish joint diamond and other ore mining enterprises. An office has been opened in the country’s capital Harare last month.
Mnangagwa believes the country could make "significant" participation to the diamond industry with a small window opened to foreign countries to participate in their industry.
