Mothae mine in Lesotho which Lucapa holds a 70 percent stake with the Kingdom of Lesotho holds the rest has produced 3089 carats of diamonds from 78,426 tonnes of ore in its first commercial recovery. Six roughs weighing more than 10.8 carats (named specials) including two D-color white diamonds weighing 78 and 38 carats were unearthed. The result of 3.94 carats per 100 tonnes is more than double Lucapa’s estimated resource and forecast grades of 1.92 carats per 100 tonnes.
Mothae mine is Lucapa’s second high-value African diamond operation following the Lulo diamond project in Angola. The mine commenced commercial diamond recoveries in Q4 2018. The first sale of commercial diamonds from Mothae is scheduled for Q1 2019.
