Okavango Diamond Company (ODC), the Botswana state-owned rough diamond company unveiled a 20.46 carats blue diamond (photo 1), the largest blue diamond ever of the country.
It is named after Botswana's Okavango Delta as Okavango Blue by the company in recognition of the land’s precious natural treasure and the World Heritage site, Okavango Delta.
The blue stone was cut from a 41.11 carats rough (photo 2) surfaced at the Orapa mine. ODC will not put the stone up for sale yet. “The iconic Okavango Blue will be showcased over the coming months to promote Botswana as a leading global producer of natural ethical diamonds with an anticipated sale toward the end of the year,” added Marcus ter Haar, managing director of the company.
