Mumbai based Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) will consider lifting the ban in synthetic diamonds trade in the next six months. “We have received representations from a number of our members on (allowing the trade of) synthetic diamonds and we will discuss this at the board level before convening an EGM to allow the same in the next five to six months,” said Anoop Mehta, BDB president.
BDB has banned the trade of synthetics since 2015. The fears of undisclosed mixing of synthetic and natural diamonds have eased as synthetics have become easier to spot due to technology advancement and accessibility to synthetics detection machines.
Its 2019 edition of Bharat Diamond Week will be held from 14-16 October however trading of synthetic diamonds will still be banned.
