According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), US customers are expected to spend 13 percent more on jewellery in US$5.2 billion this Mother’s Day, followed by dinners, flowers and gift cards spendings.
“Mother’s Day spending has been growing consistently over the past several years, and this year’s spending is expected to be the highest in the 16-year history of our survey,” NRF CEO Matthew Shay said.
Total spending around Mother’s Day hit a record $23.6 billion last year with online shoppers accounted for 31 percent. Consumers between 35 and 44 were the biggest spenders and are likely to spend the most this year.
