James Allen, one of the largest online diamond and bridal jewellery retailers in the United States offers synthetic diamonds, following its parent company Signet Jewelers’ entry into the synthetics market and becoming Signet first owned entity subsidiary to do so.
“This is a test. If consumers adopt it, then maybe it’s a sign for the rest of Signet to adopt it as well. We’ll wait and see how it goes,” said Oded Edelman, president of James Allen.
The smallest synthetics diamond currently offered on the site is a 0.7-carat oval cut costing US$1,320 while the largest is a US$48,350 4.49 carats emerald cut. All its synthetics diamonds carry grading reports from laboratories such as the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
