The 100-percent sold Phillips & Blackbird: Sports watch auction held yesterday by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo realised a total of Hk$73 million (US$9.3 million). Partnered with Blackbird Automotive Group and its founder T K Mak, the sale marks the first ever watch auction co-curated with an Asian collector.
Particularly strong interest was shown for Rolex sports watches, including early Submariners, GMT-Masters, and chronograph models such as Daytona, while Patek Philippe showed continued strength, according to Phillips. The two brands claimed all of the top ten positions leading by Rolex ‘Big Crown’ Submariner Ref 6538 (photo) sold for HK$6 million.
Thomas Perazzi, head of watches, Asia, said the sale witnessed a strong and positive reaction to the pioneering concept of teaming up with a private collector to hold a thematic watch sale. Participation from Asian collectors were exceptionally active. (Photo courtesy: Phillips)
