The 20.09-carat natural unheated Mozambican ‘pigeon blood’ ruby ring (photo 1) was sold for HK$23.04 million (US$2.95 million) at Tiancheng International’s 2019 jewellery spring auction yesterday, claiming the top lot of the sale.
Bidding of the ring started from HK$9 million and sold to a phone bidder after nearly 20 bids. According to the auction house, Mozambican rubies of over 20 carats, superb transparency, marvelous luminescence with excellent quality and ‘pigeon blood’ colour are exceptionally rare.
Another highlight, Audemars Piguet’s diamond bracelet watch, ring and earrings (photo 2) realised HK$16.8 million. The demi-parure was specially crafted for SIHH in 2002.
Branded and designer jewellery were highly sought-after, said Tiancheng International’s managing director Wang Jie and head of jewellery department Connie Huang after the auction. All timepieces at the sale were sold. (Photo courtesy: Tiancheng International)
