National Museum of China will exhibit 123 pieces of jewellery designed by French artist-jeweler Jean Schlumberger from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) alongside 11 of its historical relics from 30 May to 1 September titled “Jean Schlumberger: Twentieth Century Treasures from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts”.
Jean Schlumberger is renowned for recreating creatures from tropical jungle to sea with gemstones as his palette and transformed them into brooches, necklaces and table ornaments. The chairman of Tiffany back in 1956 hired him and offered an exclusive workshop to him which could be accessed via his own private elevator. Visitors will be able to see his creations designed from the 1930s to 1950s.
The exhibition is part of the five-year agreement between China's National Museum and VMFA which ink dealt last year to promote exchanges and large-scale joint exhibitions.
