New pipe at Canada’s Gahcho Kué mine

13-6-2019

Mountain Province discovers a new kimberlite pipe at Gahcho Kué mine in Canada during a drill testing of geophysical and geological anomalies in the area.

The pipe is the first new kimberlite found at Gahcho Kue in 20 years which combined efforts between Mountain Province and De Beers Canada and named after Alice Evelyn Wilson, first Canadian female geologist, as Wilson kimberlite.

The company estimates a potential range from 1.5-3.0 million tonnes of kimberlite material, based on the first eighteen drill holes. 80 rough diamonds were found from a 115.2 kg kimberlite sample included the largest 0.28 carat stone. No grade estimates have been provided. Further micro diamond and geological analysis are in progress.

Gahcho Kue mine is expected to produce an average of 4.5 million carats per year over a 12-year life of mine. The company anticipates the production from 2017 to 2021 averaging 5.4 million carats annually.
