Rio Tinto has unveiled its annual showcase of rare pink and red diamonds in a preview at the Argyle mine site in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. 64 diamonds weighing 56.28 carats in total make up the 2019 Argyle pink diamonds tender collection, named “The Quest for the Absolute”. Highlights including:
Lot 1: Argyle Enigma™, 1.75-carat fancy red diamond
Lot 2: Argyle Amari™, 1.48-carat fancy vivid purplish pink diamond
Lot 3: Argyle Elysian™, 1.20-carat fancy vivid pink diamond
Lot 4: Argyle Verity™,1.37-carat fancy vivid purplish pink diamond
Lot 5: Argyle Opus™, 2.01-carat fancy intense pink diamond
Lot 6: Argyle Avenoir™, 1.07-carat fancy red diamond
The lifespan of Argyle mine, almost four decades from commencement, will end soon. Rio Tinto chief executive Arnaud Soirat said there was a robust demand for the limited-edition diamonds from the mine. "When Argyle is going to shut, 90 per cent of the worldwide production of pink diamonds is going to stop, so you can see why it's making it extremely attractive," he added.
