Lucara Diamond announces Botswana’s largest rough diamond and the second-largest diamond ever weighing 1,758 carats diamond recovered from the Karowe mine in April is named “Sewelô”, meaning “rare find” in Setswana.
The winning entry was selected from over 22,000 submissions in a contest open to all citizens of Botswana. The announcement was made during a gala event hosted by Lucara Botswana in the presence of Republic of Botswana President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi.
The miner has completed its analysis of Sewelô and is considering to sell the diamond.
