Gemfields garnered US$ 18.6 million at Lusaka emerald auction held in Lusaka, Zambia from 19 to 22 August. 34 companies participated and 26 over 35 lots offered were sold, accounting for 37 percent of the offered carats with an overall average value of USD 4.75 per carat.
Gemfields’ managing director of Product & Sales Adrian Banks said sales in emerald has seen recovery at its Singapore auction in May and the growth continued in Lusaka. The sale was the largest in the last two years.
Banks added: “The Indian market, which is particularly important when it comes to commercial quality emeralds and which has been navigating challenging conditions for some time, appears to have turned the corner and we hope will continue to go from strength to strength.”
