Gem Diamonds has unearthed its third yellow diamond and the sixth diamond over 100 carats this year in Letšeng mine in Lesotho. The yellow diamond weighed 134 carats.
The mine found two diamonds weighing 114.2-carat and 140-carat white diamond last month and two diamonds greater than 100-carat during April to June including a 161-carat diamond in May. Despite the frequent recovery of huge diamonds, they have recovered fewer this year. Gem Diamonds concluded by announcing that prices for the smaller and commercial goods “have been under pressure for some time with the larger goods having been less affected, although showing recent signs of weakness”. Gem Diamonds' revenue from the sale of roughs plummeted 44 percent yoy to US$94.5 million.
