The 64th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) opened its doors on Tuesday at Challenger Hall Impact, Bangkok. The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), show organiser, hopes to generate 2.4 billion baht in the five-day fair.
Themed ‘Thailand’s Magic Hands’, the 64th BGJF was inaugurated by the Thai deputy prime minister and minister of commerce Jurin Laksanawisit, demonstrating the huge support from the government.
Banjongjitt Angsusingh, director general of DITP, said: “There are more exhibitors, both large manufacturers and SMEs, joining the September show compared to the previous edition in February. Today, we have over 1,000 companies showcasing their products in 2,100 booths, including The New Faces exhibitors from across Thailand. DITP anticipates that the fair will attract over 20,000 visitors from 130 countries, generating 2.4 billion baht from business negotiations and help push gems and jewelry exports this year to reach +1 percent.”
She added that exports of gem and jewellery products from Thailand during the first seven month this year were worth over nine billion US dollars, a 29.28-percent increase over the same period in 2018, with key export markets in Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and India.
