China Guardian Hong Kong autumn auctions 2019 held 7-8 October fetched a total of Hk$617 million (US$79 million), marking a 66-percent increase in sales over the spring auctions with three world auction records broken.
A heart-shaped 4.58-carat natural fancy purplish pink diamond and diamond ring (photo 1) fetched HK$ 25.4 million at the important jewels and jadeite session. A rectangular-shaped 20.02-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond and diamond ring was sold for HK$18.6 million (photo 2). Another highlight went to a 1.72-carat brilliant-cut fancy deep orange diamond and diamond ring which realised HK$14.6 million (photo 3).
Among the hero lots of the auctions were Yoshitomo Nara’s painting Midnight Vampire (photo 4) and Zhang Daqian’s White Cloud Studio (photo 5) both realised over HK$37 million. Zhang’s painting set a world auction record for a handscroll by the artist. (Photo courtesy: China Guardian Hong Kong)
