The 19th International Coloured Gemstone Association (ICA) Congress took place in Bangkok from 12 to 15 October gathered more than 370 delegates from 26 countries and regions. Congress chairman Prida Tiasuwan said this was the biggest ever participation by industry experts from around the world.
The biennial event included panel discussions and presentations on responsible sourcing, miners’ challenges and emerging technologies such as blockchain. Santpal Sinchawla, ICA secretary and chairman of the steering committee for the Congress, said, “The 19th ICA Congress attracted leading speakers in the coloured gemstone industry from around the world, including Sean Gilbertson, CEO of Gemfields – our anchor sponsor – and top executives from retailers Chow Tai Fook and Amazon, among many others.”
A new membership status called “Accredited Ethical Member” was introduced to further promote responsible, ethical and sustainable trading. The next congress will be held in Shenzhen.
