The inaugural International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 has exceeded expectations in terms of the income generated for the local economy, while a number of exhibitors have shown interest in coming back next year, according to The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) (GIT), show organiser.
The first international gem and jewellery trade fair organised in Chanthaburi province and jointly held by the public and private sectors, the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 achieved an income of over 100 million baht from trade and tourism activities during the show period 4-8 December 2019, well ahead of the pre-show expectations of 27 million baht.
Highlights of the show included the first-ever auction for polished gemstones in Thailand which realised a total of 150 million baht.
Daungkamol Jiambutr, GIT director, said that the success of the show was greater than expectations as it attracted nearly 10,000 visitors including industry practitioners and tourists from China, Japan and Europe. “Many Thai and international exhibitors expressed their interest in reserving booths for next year’s fair, demonstrating that the fair successfully achieved its targets,” she said.
