De Beers and Dominion Diamond Mines (DDM) show their desire to expand their current projects in Canada through submitted applications to the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board requesting permission.
Dominion has requested a five-year license to explore the area around the east of the Ekati Diamond Mine. The submission included drilling and trenching activities at the area and the possibility of its own winter road construction.
While De Beers seeks permission of the board in exploring 11 new spots at the Gahcho Kué mine by the end of February. Three of them are ready for drilling, while the miner plans to perform geophysical studies on the remaining eight. The two-phase project is expected to cost US$2.9 million.
