Alrosa has unearthed a 17.44-carat yellow diamond, the first coloured rough at its new Verkhne-Munskoye deposit since commencement.
The yellow rough, recovered in mid-February was from the Zapolyarnaya kimberlite pipe at the deposit. There is no estimated value of it at the moment. The miner will assess and evaluate the stone at its United Selling Organization(USO). It will be sent to Diamond of Alrosa for cutting and polishing after evaluation.
The Verkhne-Munskoye mine was launched in October 2018 with an expected lifespan of over 20 years. Before the yellow diamond, a 51.15-carat, 70.67-carat and 98.8-carat gem-quality white diamonds were founded at the Zapolyarnaya pipe. Alrosa deputy CEO Evgeny Agureev hopes the deposit will give them more large and interesting discoveries in the future.
