Under the threat of the novel coronavirus, Rolex and Patek Philippe have temporarily halted production in response to the state of emergency declared by the Swiss authorities, according to a National Jeweler report yesterday.
Rolex said it has closed its production facilities in Geneva, Bienne and Crissier until 27 March which may be further pushed back depending on the development of the virus and the authorities’ advice. Patek Philippe has also shut down its production lines until at least 27 March.
As the number of coronavirus cases rises, the Swiss Federal Council has declared an “extraordinary situation”, closed schools and banned public events.
