Diamond giants Alrosa and De Beers provide financing to help halt the spread of the coronavirus in their based countries and partner countries.
Alrosa CEO Sergey Ivanov sold half of his stake in the company for more than US$200 thousand to fight against the spread of virus in the Mirny district of Yakutia. “All proceeds from the sale will be used to pay for medicines, medical and personal protection equipment for Mirny district of Yakutia. I understand that today is not an ideal moment for selling shares. However, under current circumstances the speed of procurement of scarce medical supplies becomes crucial,” Sergey said. He now holds a 0.00415 percent of Alrosa’s stake.
De Beers has donated US$2.5 million to support healthcare professionals, community leaders and all those confronting COVID-19 in the countries and communities in Botswana and Namibia. The company have long-standing partnerships with the people of Botswana and Namibia spanning decades. A comprehensive Community Response Plan is also launched to provide effective support. Further announcements regarding its contribution to Canada and South Africawill be made.
