Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Petroleum of Angola has announced plans to establish its diamond bourse and hub as it seeks to consolidate its position as a player on the world market.
Invested US$77 million and expected to complete by November, the hub will contain a gemmological academy, a technological research centre and a manufacturing plant. Sodiam, state-owned diamond company will set up Angolan Diamond Bourse in the hub.
“In this venture, several types of jobs will be created for Angolans, from diamond cutting to commercial services,” said Azevedo. The project will create more than 5,000 new jobs and will increase the cutting capacity of rough diamonds from two percent to 20 percent.
