Two fancy vivid coloured heart-shaped diamond rings, the individual lots that Sotheby’s highly promoted as a pair garnered US$18.6 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction held 10 July.
The fancy-vivid-blue diamond weighed 5.04-carat and the 4.49-carat fancy-vivid-pink diamond are both flanked by two pear-shaped diamonds, hammered over US$10 million and US$8.1 million respectively.
Featuring over 200 lots, Sotheby’s sold 80 percent of them. “Today’s results are a clear indication that the appetite for top-quality jewels in Asia remains undiminished. The hottest colour diamonds in the most romantic of cuts and settings proved irresistible, with the pair of fancy vivid pink and blue rings taking top billing as the stars of the show,” Wenhao Yu, deputy chairman of Sotheby’s Asia jewellery department commented.
