eBay in India launches Gems and Jewelry Certification program (GJCP) to the country’s jewellery industry and build global presence through offering jewellery certified by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) on the e-platform.
Thanks to the reputation of IGI on its grading standards, Indian jewellery sellers can sell products on eBay with three simple steps: place items on eBay, obtain IGI certification for the item and ship the item along with IGI certificate to buyers.
eBay’s loose diamonds and gemstones sub-category under jewellery and watches has witnessed growth in the last quarter after the introduction of certification by Gem Testing Laboratory (GTL) of Gem Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The corporation between eBay amd IGI build upon the success.
Vidmay Naini, India country manager at eBay said: “In the current scenario, with most of the purchases happening on the e-commerce platforms, it is only fair to say that consumers expect authenticity in what they purchase. The certification of diamond jewellery and loose stones will foster that confidence in the buyers and sellers alike on eBay.”
