London-based diamond supplier Gem Diamonds Limited sold a 198-carat Type II, D-colour diamond for US$10.6 million (US$53,746 per carat)at a recent tender in Letseng, Lesotho, according to the company’s official announcement dated 1 October.
Gem Diamonds CEO Clifford Elphick stated: “The sale of this large, high quality white diamond demonstrates the continued robust demand for large high quality diamonds.”
A leading producer of high value diamonds, Gem Diamonds owns 70 percent of the Letšeng mine in Lesotho and the Ghaghoo mine in Botswana.
